Our Story

I'm Andrea. I've spent the last decade chasing long trails: The Appalachian Trail, the Colorado Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, countless weekends in the high country. Along the way, my dog Kiefer became my primary hiking partner.
Kiefer's an Akita / German Shepherd mix with big ears and bigger energy. He's been with me through alpine storms, river crossings, and more miles than I can count. And for most of those miles, I couldn't find gear for him that matched the gear I trusted for myself.
The Gear Gap
I'd spend hours researching the lightest rain jacket, the most packable puffy, the best warmth-to-weight fleece. Then I'd look at what was available for Kiefer: bulky, heavy, poorly designed jackets that added weight to my pack and didn't actually keep him comfortable.
The outdoor industry has figured out ultralight. They've figured out technical fabrics and smart design and gear that performs without compromise. But somehow, dog gear got left behind.
So I started making my own.
Built in Colorado
What started as DIY projects on my cutting table became Sundial Dog Gear.
Every piece is designed in Louisville and handmade in my studio: cut, sewn, and finished by hand. I use the same materials trusted by ultralight backpackers: silpoly ripstop, technical fleece, synthetic insulation that stays warm when wet.
I build gear I'd want to carry. Gear that earns its place in the pack.
What We Believe
Lighter is better.
Every ounce matters when you're moving through the mountains. Our shells weigh under 3 ounces. Our puffies stuff into a pocket. Your dog gets protection without the bulk.
Recycled should be standard.
Every Sundial product is made from 100% recycled materials. Not because it's a marketing angle because it performs just as well and the planet doesn't need more new plastic.
Small batch means better.
We're not a factory. We're a studio. Every jacket gets individual attention. If it's not right, it doesn't ship.
For Dogs Who Go
Sundial gear is for dogs who summit. Dogs who log trail miles. Dogs who've seen sunrise from a ridge and sunset from a tent.
It's for the hikers, backpackers, and mountain people who know their dogs deserve gear as good as their own.
Kiefer's still my product tester. He's pickier than any customer and if it works for him, it'll work for your dog too.
See you on the trail.
